This role is focused on transforming the Veterans Affairs (VA) into a modern digital services organization by delivering scalable and impactful digital solutions. As a senior member of the team, the Staff DevOps Engineer acts as a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership and mentorship while working autonomously on complex projects. The role involves leading efforts to optimize infrastructure, implement cloud\-native solutions, and ensure security and compliance standards are met, including CMS/NIST guidelines. The engineer will collaborate closely with government partners, software engineering teams, and stakeholders to enhance service design, product management, and technology integration. The position emphasizes proactive communication, strategic planning, and continuous improvement of DevOps practices to support public\-sector outcomes effectively. **Qualifications** * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. * 8\+ years of relevant experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or related roles (equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree). * Expert\-level proficiency in multiple infrastructure\-as\-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible. * Mastery of core DevOps concepts including software installation, virtualization, containerization, networking, and automation. * Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud\-native architecture. * Experience with security best practices, defense\-in\-depth, and compliance standards such as CMS and NIST. * Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and automation tools. * Excellent communication skills and ability to influence technical and non\-technical stakeholders. * Ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor team members, and manage multiple priorities effectively. **Responsibilities** * Lead and monitor work to ensure scope, schedule, and delivery requirements are met within the team and across adjacent programs. * Influence and improve software engineering practices, representing engineering disciplines in planning and decision\-making processes. * Proactively communicate with stakeholders to drive enhancements in DevOps processes and practices. * Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams to foster best practices and continuous improvement. * Design, develop, and operate the full lifecycle infrastructure of digital solutions, ensuring scalability and reliability. * Implement and manage cloud\-based services using infrastructure\-as\-code tools, ensuring security and compliance. * Ensure all systems adhere to security standards and are configured for defense\-in\-depth, maintaining compliance with CMS/NIST standards for Authority to Operate (ATO). * Plan and execute migrations to cloud\-native data services, optimizing performance and cost\-efficiency. * Participate in planning sessions with partners and stakeholders, translating technical requirements into actionable solutions. * Travel periodically to collaborate directly with clients, present project updates, and gather feedback. * Identify constraints and new opportunities within complex or ambiguous products, evolving solutions accordingly. * Communicate effectively regarding system design, past performance, and project history for proposals and client interactions. * Participate in technical interviews for hiring new team members, ensuring the team maintains high technical standards. **Benefits** * Company\-subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance * Flexible paid time off (PTO) * 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions * Paid parental leave after one year of service * Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for personal and professional support Equal Opportunity Ad Hoc LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
