Job Description
**Curious Packet** is a product\-focused software studio building modern web platforms, marketplaces, and business applications. We work on production\-grade products that require clean architecture, reliable APIs, scalable frontend systems, and practical engineering judgment. We are looking for a **Senior DevOps Engineer** who can take ownership of our cloud infrastructure, deployment workflows, and system reliability, making sound technical decisions to support our development team and end\-users. This role is suitable for someone who has managed real\-world production environments, understands how to scale applications pragmatically, and can build robust CI/CD pipelines without overcomplicating the architecture. **Role Overview** As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be the backbone of our deployment and infrastructure strategy. You will be responsible for provisioning cloud resources, automating deployments, ensuring system security, and maintaining high availability for our web applications. You should be comfortable understanding infrastructure requirements, setting up secure networking, writing infrastructure as code, managing databases, and debugging complex production issues. This is not a beginner role. We are looking for someone who can work with limited hand\-holding, manage infrastructure costs effectively, and contribute as a strong engineering team member. **Responsibilities** You will be expected to: * Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS). * Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployments. * Manage containerized environments and orchestration (e.g., Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes). * Implement and manage robust monitoring, alerting, and logging systems. * Handle database administration tasks, including automated backups, scaling, and secure access. * Automate infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools. * Collaborate with backend and frontend developers to streamline local development and staging environments. * Ensure infrastructure security, network isolation (VPCs, firewalls), and access management (IAM). * Monitor cloud costs and optimize resource usage to prevent unnecessary billing overhead. * Lead incident response for infrastructure downtime and perform root\-cause analysis. * Document infrastructure configurations and deployment processes. **Required Skills** The candidate should have strong practical experience with: * Amazon Web Services (AWS \- EC2, S3, RDS, ECS, VPC, Route53, IAM). * Linux server administration and troubleshooting. * Containerization (Docker, Docker Compose). * CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar). * Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Pulumi). * Scripting languages for automation (Bash, Python, or Node.js). * Web servers and reverse proxies (Nginx, Traefik). * Database management and scaling (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis). * Monitoring and logging tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or CloudWatch). **Good to Have** These are not mandatory, but will be a strong plus: * Experience specifically with hosting and deploying Next.js and Node.js applications. * Experience with Kubernetes (EKS) and Helm. * Experience with CDN configurations, edge caching, and web application firewalls (Cloudflare, AWS WAF). * Experience with serverless architectures (AWS Lambda). * Understanding of database replication and performance tuning. * Knowledge of compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC2, GDPR). **What We Expect From You** We are looking for someone who: * Thinks before building and favors pragmatic solutions over over\-engineered ones (no Kubernetes just for the sake of it). * Understands the business impact of uptime, security, and cloud costs. * Communicates clearly and professionally with developers. * Can write clean, maintainable automation scripts and IaC. * Does not require constant supervision. * Can identify single points of failure and design highly available systems. * Takes responsibility for security and reliability, not just completing tickets. * Is comfortable working in a fast\-moving product environment. **Example Work You May Handle** You may work on features such as: * Migrating a monolithic application to containerized microservices. * Setting up zero\-downtime automated deployments for a Node.js backend. * Creating isolated, on\-demand staging environments for QA testing. * Implementing automated database snapshots with cross\-region disaster recovery. * Configuring a WAF and rate\-limiting to protect a public\-facing marketplace. * Auditing and reducing AWS infrastructure costs by 30%. * Setting up automated SSL renewals and custom domain routing for a SaaS platform. **Minimum Requirements** * 5\+ years of professional experience in DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Engineering. * Strong experience managing production workloads on AWS. * Hands\-on experience writing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred). * Proven ability to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines. * Strong debugging and network troubleshooting skills. * Good written communication. * Must be able to explain past infrastructure designs, complex outages you’ve resolved, or share configuration snippets. **Interview Process** The hiring process may include: * Initial screening call. * Technical discussion about previous infrastructure work. * Practical system design or debugging scenario. * Final interview. We care more about practical ability than memorized theory. You should be ready to explain how you design secure networks, debug failed deployments, and structure real\-world cloud environments. Pay: Rs400,000\.00 \- Rs700,000\.00 per month Application Question(s): * Which cloud providers have you managed in production? (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) * How many years of experience do you have with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)? * Have you built CI/CD pipelines from scratch? If so, using which tools? * Are you comfortable working remotely and communicating through written updates? * Briefly describe the most complex infrastructure you have designed or the hardest production outage you have fixed. * What is your expected monthly salary in PKR? * When can you start? Experience: * professional DevOps/Cloud Engineering: 5 years (Required) Work Location: Remote
