Job Description

Your Opportunity:

Located at the LHHW, responsible for working with gynecology, oncology, and postpartum patients, and performing a variety of nursing duties and administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. The incumbent will care for a variety of patients including day surgery, acute gynecology/oncology, postpartum mothers, and patients undergoing genetic terminations of pregnancy. A thorough understanding of gynecology, oncology or postpartum is an asset. The incumbent must demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and consider the Essential Habits as set forth by the Royal Alex Way in daily interactions with colleagues, patients, and visitors. Orientation will be established based on experience.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:

NRP certification, recent experience in Women's Health, successful completion and passing of medication math examination at time of interview. This position requires the ability to meet the physical demands associated with nursing duties in an acute hospital unit setting. These include but are not limited to: Frequent pushing and pulling of equipment or patients. Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the shift. Regular bending, kneeling, twisting and reaching. Ability to lift, move, or assist patients and equipment weighing up to 40–50 pounds. Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications: Recent experience in an acute care setting - maternal/child health preferred. Current IV certification and central line skills are preferred. Experience providing acute gynecological surgery or medical care preferred. Experience providing postpartum care and experience with breastfeeding teaching preferred.
