**Job Description** NBM Railways is seeking a Project Engineer to support our Engineering and Maintenance of Way Department, in the delivery of capital and operational projects across the railway network. This role provides project engineering, technical, and coordination support for Maintenance of Way (MOW) and Rail Services initiatives, ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The Project Engineer works closely with field supervision, operations, safety, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to support planning, design, construction, progress billing and close\-out activities. **Responsibilities** * Lead new construction and program maintenance initiatives related to upgrades and modifications of the rail network * Lead in the planning, development, updating, and monitoring of project and construction schedules * Support project engineering activities to ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and contract specifications * Serve as the project point of contact for customers, and partners owning the relationship throughout the project lifecycle * bid preparation and estimating, including quantity take\-offs, requests for pricing, and technical reviews * Prepare railroad project estimates, manage scope, and monitor costs to ensure adherence to approved budgets * Coordinate material procurement, equipment scheduling, subcontractors and logistics for project execution * Support project cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting, including identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies * Work closely with consultant engineers and internal teams to coordinate design development and review * Partner with Maintenance of Way teams (track, bridge, culvert maintenance) and Rail Services teams (track installation and maintenance) * Manage and maintain effective relationships with customers, contractors and suppliers * Visit, inspect, and monitor active project sites to ensure quality, safety, and progress expectations are met * Travel throughout Atlantic Canada and New England. **Qualifications** * Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering * Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) or actively working toward designation * 3\-5 years of relevant engineering or civil infrastructure experience * Experience with transportation, rail, roadway, or highway construction projects is considered an asset * Exposure to project management methodologies, cost estimating, and budget tracking * Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment * Strong customer service orientation with proven relationship‑building skills * Enthusiastic, professional communicator with the ability to work cross‑functionally * Self‑starter with a strong sense of urgency, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving skills * Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail * Previous experience with planning or financial systems (e.g., JD Edwards, Basware) is considered an asset * Ability to work on projects in both Canada and the United States (travel required).
