Job Description
We are seeking a Corporate/Commercial Lawyer or Commercial Litigation Lawyer with a minimum of 3 years of experience and a portable practice to join a dynamic Toronto-based law firm. This opportunity is ideal for an entrepreneurial lawyer looking for a collaborative platform to grow an existing client base while handling sophisticated corporate, commercial, or commercial litigation matters. The successful candidate will independently manage client files, provide strategic legal advice, and contribute to the continued growth of the firm's practice.
Responsibilities
- Advise clients on a broad range of corporate, commercial, or commercial litigation matters.
- Manage legal files independently from initial consultation through resolution or transaction completion.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, contracts, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research, analysis, and develop practical legal strategies.
- Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, dispute resolution processes, and court proceedings, where applicable.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while continuing to grow a portable practice.
- Collaborate with colleagues on legal strategy and cross-practice matters.
- Manage multiple files while ensuring deadlines and client expectations are met.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent legal education.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Corporate/Commercial Law or Commercial Litigation.
- Existing portable/moveable book of business is required.
- Strong legal research, drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Excellent advocacy and client relationship management abilities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
